The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin headed a delegation from Tatarstan on a working trip to Turkmenistan. Today, near Ashgabat, Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov opened the first stage of the new city of Arkadag. After participating in the ceremony, Ilsur Metshin signed a cooperation agreement with the Hakim of Arkadag.
The opening ceremony of the new city of Arkadag (translated from Turkmen as “a patron”) took place in Turkmenistan today. The city is located 30 km from Ashgabat, its construction is planned in two stages. Currently, 336 different facilities have been built as part of the first stage.
Among them is a monument to the Akhal-Teke horse named Akhan. In 2018, this horse entered the Guinness Book of Records by walking 10 m on the rack in 4.19 seconds.
Environmentally friendly transport, smart parking, and solar panels will be used in Arkadag. Two stages of the city will occupy an area of 1,002 hectares, and the population will be about 73 thousand people.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of Russia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Germany, Georgia, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, China, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Japan. Russia was presented by delegations from Tatarstan, Astrakhan and Chelyabinsk regions.
Turkmenistan is a significant partner for Kazan and Tatarstan. The purpose of cooperation in the bilateral format is the development of export-import relations and investment opportunities, the establishment of friendly relations.
After participating in the ceremony, Ilsur Metshin signed an agreement with the Hakim of Arkadag on the establishment of twinning relations between the cities. The document is aimed at the development of innovation, trade, economic, scientific, cultural, sports, tourism and other ties. It is noted that the cities will exchange information and experience in urban management, cultural events and art exhibitions. The cities will promote the development of new promising areas and innovative forms of cooperation, explore the possibility of developing and implementing joint projects.
