During the first days of February, almost a monthly precipitation rate
of 95% fell in Kazan. The snowfall complicated the work of the road services, removing
the snow that had fallen in January. The Mayor Ilsur Metshin stressed that the
city has no right to reduce the pace of work.
“The main issue for three weeks has been clearing the city after
snowfall. We have fixed a climate record, Kazan has not seen such a volume of
snowfall in the XXI century. Road services and property management companies
are working at the limit of their capabilities. There is a catastrophic
shortage of vehicles,”- the head of the city noted.
Currently, all available snow melting stations and dry landfills are
overflowing in the capital of Tatarstan. Additional sites for storing snow are
being selected in the city.
“We have no right to dump snow in the nearest ravines – this is a
violation of environmental legislation. The work does not literally stop day
and night. The heads of districts regularly inspect the progress of work,”-
Ilsur Metshin noted.
Every day more than 30 thousand tons of snow are moved to snowmaking
stations and temporary storage points. Over the current season, more than 1,4
million tons of snow have already been removed from the streets of the city.
Presently, highways have been cleared of snow, the next stage of work is
cleaning of yards, driveways and village streets. On average, 750 road workers
and over 1,000 vehicles are engaged in work in the city.
