(KZN.RU, August 29, by Renat Shirmanov) An awards ceremony to honor the owners of restored historical buildings was held at Kazan City Hall. Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin awarded them certificates of commendation and letters of appreciation.
"We are purposefully holding this meeting on the eve of a great holiday – the Day of the Republic and of the City. Gathered here today are people who have made an invaluable contribution to the restoration of the historical center of Kazan. Two and a half years ago, we began the work that eventually became a massive project, whose significance is recognized beyond Kazan. Now the restoration of the historical center of the capital of Tatarstan is the subject of studies in cities experiencing similar problems," said Ilsur Metshin.
In total, 265 owners took an active part in revitalizing the buildings located in the historical center of Kazan. Of the 331 objects in poor condition, work has been completed on 285. Of the 100 buildings with the landmark status, 86 have been fully restored.
