(KZN.RU, September 30, by Taisiya Basharkina) A Kazan delegation, headed by Mayor Ilsur Metshin, will take part in the 4th World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders, which will be held in the Moroccan capital of Rabat from October 1 to 4 this year. This year's summit is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the international municipal movement.
As Ilsur Metshin noted at today's Business Monday meeting, the UCLG summit is a most important event: "Kazan and Russia need not only a voice in this international organization but also representation. We will continue to work actively to promote and enhance the status of our city on the international arena."
The participants of the summit will determine the strategic development of local authorities in the coming years. The results of the delegates' work will be reported on to the United Nations.
Recall that the summit is held every three years and brings together more than 3,000 representatives of the executive bodies of municipal and regional administrations of the world. Ilsur Metshin has been a UCLG co-president since 2010 and President of the Eurasian branch of the organization since 2006.
For the record: United Cities and Local Governments was founded in 2004. The main mission of the organization is protection of democratic local self-government. The organization unites more than 1,000 cities.
