(KZN.RU, September 27, by Alisa Rozanova) The results and prospects of the "Green Record" project was the main topic of a recent Environment Council meeting at City Hall, chaired by the Mayor of Kazan. Members of the environmental community were also present.
Deputy head of the Executive Committee for Housing Improvement and Communal Services Alexander Lobov recalled that about 48 thousand trees and 20 thousand shrubs were planted within the framework of the "Green Record" project last year. Implementation of the project continued last spring, when about 10,000 trees were planted and a lot of work was done laying lawns and planting flowers. This fall, another 40 thousand trees, including 12.6 thousand along the roads, are due to be planted. The representatives of the environmental community applauded the progress in the greening of Kazan.
"We have new challenges – we have to go from Subbotniks and massive planting to a more professional work. We are pleased with the survival rate of the trees planted last year, but currently we need to clear the bar set not only in the quantity, but also the quality of work. It is necessary to create a natural and ecological framework, and, therefore, the work must be planned; we need to understand where we are going. We have to listen to environmental scientists and representatives of the environmental community," concluded the Mayor.
