(Kazan, KZN.RU, August 13, by Adel Galiyev). The volume of housing construction completed in Kazan during the first half of 2014 speaks about the stability of the industry, said Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin at the Construction Wednesday meeting.
According to first deputy head of the Kazan Executive Committee on Urban Policy Azat Nigmatzyanov, Kazan took first place in the Volga Federal District in terms of housing construction during the first six months of this year, with 508 thousand square meters of floor space commissioned. The speaker reminded that the city recently completed the large-scale 2013 Universiade civil and sports infrastructure projects. According to Azat Nigmatzyanov, the World Student Games were a powerful catalyst for the construction industry, and it was feared that with their completion, the industry would stagnate and a large number of highly-skilled construction workers would lose jobs. However, the speaker pointed out, the statistics show the opposite. Construction in 2014 has not decreased but shifted to pre-school education facility, affordable housing, rental and investment property construction projects.
Azat Nigmatzyanov cited the Tatarstanstat statistics, according to which the value of construction projects completed in Kazan in the first six months of this year amounted to 33,596,300,000 rubles. The average number of employees engaged in construction was 46 thousand 160 workers.
Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin agreed with the speaker that the fears about the future of housing construction in Kazan had really existed. "Indeed, it was feared that after the Universiade, stagnation would set in in the construction industry and a lot of people would lose their jobs. But 33 billion rubles and 46,000 workers currently employed in the construction industry are serious figures that speak for themselves," he said.
"The economic and market situation is difficult, and housing construction is among its first indicators being a kind of litmus test. Nevertheless, the industry is undergoing development and the builders have jobs," summed up Ilsur Metshin.
