(Kazan, KZN.RU, November 24, by Adelya Galieva) Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin will chair a meeting of the United Cities and Local Governments World Council, scheduled to be held from November 25 to 26 in the city of Haikou, China.
United Cities and Local Governments is an umbrella organization for cities, local governments and municipal associations, established in 2004 in order to effectively implement the rights of citizens in local government. The UCLG Eurasian Regional Branch, with its headquarters in Kazan, includes more than 100 cities and associations of local governments of the CIS countries and Mongolia.
This year's meeting of the World Council – the UCLG representative body elected every three years – will be chaired by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin. Recall that the head of the capital of Tatarstan was elected a UCLG co-president in 2010 and in 2013 re-elected for a second term. It is worth noting that the mayor of a Russian city will act as UCLG meeting chairman for the first time in its history.
The meeting participants will hear the organization program for 2015, familiarize themselves with the UCLG report for 2013-2014 and elect the UCLG Latin American branch co-president.
