Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin announced today at the 21st session of the
City Duma that the Kazan – a City on Water concept has been developed. The
meeting was attended by the Rais of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. “The
developed water infrastructure for mooring ships, holding events and sailing will
definitely increase the tourist flow, provide additional opportunities for the
development of small and medium–sized businesses, as well as attract investment
in the city's economy,”- he said.
I. Metshin noted that thanks to the support of the Rais (Head) of
Tatarstan much has been done to improve public spaces, but the coastal
territories of the city have to be improved as well. “The length of the Volga
River shoreline along the city is almost 78 kilometers, and only 0.5 km has
been landscaped. The length of the coastal line of the Kazanka River within the
city is 56 kilometers, only 4.2 km has been landscaped. Historically, the
residents of Kazan are very closely connected with the river and have a need
for recreation by the water,”- the Mayor said. In 2023, it is planned to launch
a bike-walking route along the Kremlin Dam as part of one of the stages of the
implementation of the Kazanka Development Strategy.
I. Metshin reminded that 3.6 million tourists visited Kazan in 2022,
which is 20% more than in 2021. The average occupancy of hotels was 65.2%, and
on holidays it reached 95%. “Inbound tourism revives not only the urban
economy, but also contributes to the human capital of our city. After staying
in a comfortable, safe and developing city, you will definitely want to come
back, and then move forever,”- the Mayor noted.
The Mayor also said that a monument “Kazan – the City of Labor Valor”
will be installed in the square near the Northern Railway Station. The city was
awarded this honorary title in the year of the 75th anniversary of Victory in
the Great Patriotic War by Decree of the President of Russia.
