The Olympic Reserve Sports School in chess, checkers and go named after Rashid Nezhmetdinov is being renovated in Kazan. The interior structures of the historic building, built in 1913, are currently being dismantled. The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin inspected the progress of the renovation.
“The Rashid Nezhmetdinov Chess School has trained 16 grandmasters. This is not just a 'supplementary education' facility, but also a center for training the best chess players in our republic and, in some cases, in our country. Finally, the time has come to renovate it,”- said Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin.
The almost all premises of the building will be renovated. The facility is a cultural heritage site. The school will undergo a complete renovation of utilities, plumbing, floors, ceilings, and roof, as well as the foundation's waterproofing, structural reinforcement, facade restoration, and gutter system. The wrought-iron elements will be restored, and windows and doors will be replaced. Architectural lighting and landscaping of the surrounding area are also planned.
The historical appearance of the building will be preserved. According Rustam Garifullin, the head of the sports school, facade will undergo a careful restoration without changing its architectural appearance.
The interiors of the school will be decorated in a chess-themed design. The rooms will feature decorative elements related to intellectual sports, and some areas will be designed in the style of a chessboard. For example, the floors in certain spaces will be decorated in the shape of a chessboard.
