During the New Year holidays, about 160 thousand tourists visited Kazan
– 22 thousand more than a year earlier. The average occupancy of the hotels in
Kazan from December 31 to January 8 was 78%, Director of the Committee for
Tourism Development Daria Sannikova reported at a staff meeting in the
Executive Committee.
The main peak of booking occurred in the period from 3 to 5 January and
averaged 93%. “Every year we see an increased demand for accommodation in
rented apartments,”- D. Sannikova noted.
The Kazan Kremlin traditionally remains the most attractive site for
tourists, 188 thousand people visited it during the New Year holidays, from
December 31 to January 8 – 20.5% more than a year earlier. The City Panorama interactive
museum was visited by about 2,400 people during these New Year holidays (35%
more than in the same period of 2022). The Chak-chak Museum was visited by
1,400 people.
The Director of the Tourism Development Committee also drew attention to
the increase in the number of visitors to restaurants during the past holidays.
“The loading of restaurants located nearby the tourist sites on some days
amounted to 100%. At the same time, compared with the previous year, there is a
decrease in the average check, which is 750-800 rubles,”– said D. Sannikova.
“We pay systematic attention to the development of the tourism industry.
We recognized the tourism potential of Kazan during the Universiade in 2013,
and we have been doing this for 10 years,”- said Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of the
capital of Tatarstan.
He reminded that at the session of the Kazan City Duma it was decided to
develop a program for the development of tourism. “I ask you not to postpone and
to develop the program so that we enter the summer season with the possibility
of its implementation,”- the Mayor said, adding that additional funds will be
included in the city budget.
