This year, the
central library on Vishnevsky Street will be renovated in Kazan. By the summer,
the renovation of the library No. 27 on Barudi Street will also be completed.
This was reported to the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin at the summing-up meeting
by the head of the Department of Culture Azat Abzalov.
The central
library on Vishnevsky Street will be modernized according to the new standard with
decoration of all premises, it is also planned to replace utilities. Earlier,
two libraries were renovated in Kazan – library No. 26 on K.Tsetkin Street and
library No. 13 on Mavlyutova Street. After the renovation of institutions, the
number of visits doubled and amounted to about 90,000 in 2022, and the number
of books lent out was more than 200 thousand. The renovated libraries combine
the functions of a book depository and a modern public space. In addition,
Library No. 13 became the first library in the city with a concert hall.
According to
A.Abzalov, along with the renovation, the approach to the formation of book
collections has changed. 23 million rubles were allocated for their acquisition
over 2 years. “Today you can find literature of any genre in libraries. In
addition, they all have access to high–speed Internet,”- the head of the
Department of Culture noted.
Last year, the
head of library No. 26 Nikolay Baskov became a finalist of the Librarian of the
Year All-Russian competition.
A.Abzalov also
said that Kazan is participating in the competition for the status of “Library
Capital of Russia” in 2024. The results will be announced in June at the
All-Russian Library Congress in Murmansk. The competition is held by the
Russian Library Association.
