(Kazan, KZN.RU, September 6, by Roza Galeyeva) The first international schools for the children of foreign specialists were opened in Elabuga and Kazan in the new school year, said Ilsur Khadiullin, the head of the Education Department, at a City Hall staff meeting.
The need to open an international school in Kazan was long overdue. The Education Department received a large number of requests from foreign specialists working in the city and the republic about educating their children in an accredited international school. The school is located at 5 Mavlyutov Street. Currently, only primary grades are functioning in the new school. The core subjects are taught in accordance with the "School 2100" program. Every day, the students attend English classes; physical education, music and fine arts classes are also included in the curriculum. The classes are taught in English by native speakers.
Ilsur Khadiullin said that it was very hard to create an international school "from scratch." Accreditation of an international school may take from 2.5 to 3 years. However, a start has already been made. In the future, graduates will receive an IB diploma which will open the doors of most universities of the world.
According to Mayor Ilsur Metshin, the opening of an international school will remove a barrier which prevented foreign specialists from coming to Kazan and Tatarstan. "An international school is an attribute of a modern city, similar to an airport," said the mayor, urging the implementation of the project in the coming years.
