(Kazan, KZN.RU, October 17, by Ekaterina Andreyeva and Albert Murtazin) Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin was elected chairman of the Volga Region City Association. This was decided at a general meeting of Association members in Ulyanovsk.
The previous head of the organization, the former mayor of Samara, Dmitry Azarov, resigned due to his transfer to the Federation Council on October 10. Dmitry Azarov supported the mayor of Kazan's candidacy for the post. According to him, Ilsur Metshin is well known not only in the Volga Federal District, but also in the Russian Federation. "He, together with the Government of Tatarstan and the Government of the Russian Federation, has extensive experience in arranging world-class events in the city. Now that Mr. Metshin has become chairman of the Association, he will be able to share his experience," said Dmitry Azarov.
Ilsur Metshin's candidacy for the chairmanship of the Association of the Volga Region Cities was approved unanimously. Alexander Fetisov, chairman of the Municipal Duma of Samara, was elected the new vice-chairman, along with new members of the Association Board.
