(Kazan, KZN.RU, August 18). Kazan-Arena became the first 2018 World Cup stadium to host an official match. Last night, a game in the fourth round of the Russian Premier League championship was played by Kazan's "Rubin" vs Moscow's "Locomotive." President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko, Tatarstan's Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov, head of the Russian Soccer Union Nikolai Tolstykh and Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin were guests of honor at the match.
Before the match, a stele dedicated to the 2018 World Cup in Russia was unveiled at the main entrance to the Kazan-Arena stadium. Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko unveiled the stele.
Following the ceremony, Vitaly Mutko congratulated all the fans of Kazan on the first match at the new stadium. "Tatarstan is doing a lot for the development of sports, and it is symbolic that the first 2018 World Cup stadium opened here," said Vitaly Mutko.
He thanked the leadership of the republic for the attention given to the development of sports, conveyed greetings on behalf of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and the head of FIFA Joseph Blatter and wished "Rubin" much success.
"This stadium will host next year's World Aquatics Championships, the Confederation Cup matches in 2017 and the World Cup in 2018, but we are ready for them today," said President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.
